George Hettinger, a former resident and a veteran of Company C of the 35th Iowa Infantry.
George Hettinger was born in Hamback (sic), Germany, June 12, 1835. His father came to America in the fall of 1848 and settled in Chicago. Two years later the mother and children followed. On December 25, 1856, he married Christina Munsert of Muscatine and resided there. He enlisted August 1862 in Company C, 35th Iowa Infantry, serving three years and was honorably discharged at the expiration of service in August 1865. In the fall of that year he moved to Bear Creek, Wantaca county, Wisconsin. In January, 1869 he came to Humboldt, Kansas, and settled on a claim 6 miles southeast of Humboldt on the Osage Federal lands.
Mr. Hettinger passed away at 9 a.m. Friday October 15. He is survived by two brothers and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Pullman, Silver City, Iowa; William Hettinger, Silver City; Louis Hettinger, Council Bluffs; and two daughters and one son, Mrs. T. C. O'Leary of Drumright, Ok.; Mrs. Ed. Kaufman of Humboldt and George Hettinger, Jr. of Rupert, Idaho.
