Dutch Oven Cobbler

Dutch Oven Cobbler

Here is a recipe that has been floating around the internet, that I've used to make Dutch oven cobbler.  I've used it out on camping trips, and it's always been a big hit.

  • 1 - (18.25 oz.) box yellow cake mix
  • 2 - (21 oz.) cans cherry, peach, blueberry or apple pie filling
    • The premium brands are better (less pits, stems, etc)
  • 1 - stick butter
  • 2 - tsp. ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 2 - tsp. ground nutmeg (optional)
Steps to awesome cobbler:

  1. Line oven with aluminum foil.
  2. Pour the pie filling in the Dutch oven, spreading evenly.
  3. Mix the Yellow cake mix with water, till it's a nice mixed consistency (not watery, though).
  4. Pour the yellow cake mix over the pie filling, spreading evenly.
  5. Cut 1/4 inch slices of butter and arrange evenly along the top.
  6. Optionally sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg on top.
  7. Put about 20 charcoals on top of the Dutch oven and about 7-8 charcoals on the bottom.
  8. Let the the oven cook 30 to 40 minutes or until cake mix is golden brown.
  9. Checking it about every 5 minutes after 20 minutes.
  10. Remove from coals and fire, and let cool.
